Jillian Edelstein talks about photographing one of the world's iconic leaders and imparts her portrait shooting advice. World leaders, supermodels, sports and movie stars have all sat for Jillian Edelstein during her career, but one of her first major projects was capturing the people of the townships during the apartheid in South Africa. Since starting out in the 1980s she has received several awards including the Kodak UK Young Photographer of the Year in 1986, Photographers' Gallery Portrait Photographer of the Year Award 1990 and more recently inclusion in the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize in 1997 and 2013. Her portraits have appeared in numerous publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and TIME.
