I needed an USB Bluray drive to rip my Bluray movies so I can store them on my media server. I originally went with the Pawtec Slim External Aluminum Slot-Loading BDXL Blu-Ray Writer / Burner (Black) because it was rated at USB 3.0 and had the Slot-Loading feature. It's a nice looking drive, but stops there. As I mentioned before, I bought this Samsung drive for my Mac Pro 2013 specifically to use with MakeMKV to convert my Bluray movies for my media server. The moment I plugged it in, the drive worked. And it worked well. When I opened MakeMKV, it didn't pop up with any SCSI errors like I received with the Pawtec drive. As soon as I put one of my Bluray movies in, it recognized it and started to do its thing. In fact, even though this drive is USB 2.0, it actually ripped my movie faster then the Pawtec which is a USB 3.0 drive. Even though it isn't a slot-loading drive, it works and works well. I'm sure there are noticeable speed differences between USB 2.0 and 3.0 optical drives. But for this user, it was quite the opposite. The Samsung SE-506CB/RSBD is definitely the winner in this case. So in conclusion, if you have a Mac and want a Bluray solution, get the Samsung drive. Even though its USB 2.0, it's fast and reliable. A definite 5-star in my book.
