The grand finale of the Songwriters Hall of Fame which aired in May of 1989. Liza in her sequins, tears it up with her trademark powerhouse vocals. "New York, New York" was written for Liza in 1977 by John Kander, with lyrics by Fred Ebb, for the Martin Scorsese film of the same title. . It remains one of the best-remembered songs about New York City. In 2004 it finished #31 on AFI's (American Film Institute)100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema. Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra's covers are the most popular. The video was extracted from VHS tape and remastered in high-definition.
